Discovery's Last Flight

Discovery's Last Flight is this afternoon. The launch is scheduled for 4:50 p.m. ET at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Originally scheduled for November, this will be Discovery's 39th flight. Its first flight was almost 30 years ago in 1984.

In St. Augustine, Florida we enjoy watching the shuttle launches from our beautiful beaches. Currently we have .5 mile of visibility so hopefully this morning's fog will burn off by this afternoon.

Shuttle Launch

Are you planning to watch the flight and if so on TV or by going outside? This photo is from the video I took in March 2009 during the day, so today's launch should look similar.

Hi Barbara - Thanks for this great reminder! What a feat - 30 years!

Dear Barbara,

You are lucky to be close enough to see.

Once on an airport runway, the pilot announced to all the passengers we had to wait before we could continue again.  Then he explained, "The Space Shuttle is being moved so we have to stay out of the way."

Lucky me - I got to watch as the plane with the Shuttle strapped on its back passed by us.  Imagine, actually seeing something that has been SO FAR away!

Have a happy day -

Hey Barbara -  We have been following this launch closely.  One of our clients works at NASA and is heavily involved with the launch.  He was closing on some property with us (by mail) this week and we had to make sure and get the paperwork in and out of his hands in time for him to concentrate on liftoff!!

Judy and Chuck - it is unabelievable the # of time it has flown and for how many years. Talk about re-use!

Bill & Cyndi - How grand is that to have a customer that works at NASA? Thanks for sharing.

Lynn - To be that close had to be exciting. Some of our neighbors are heading down for the launch, but they won't be able to see what you saw.

Hi Barbara, how lucky you are to be able to see the launches.  I've never been and several people in my family have gone, but it is a big trip to travel from Texas to see the launch.

Liz - the final launch we couldn't see from here due to the clouds, but did watch on TV. It has been nice being able to see them. I will miss them.
