The Rotary Club of Coastal St. Johns County will host its third annual Golf Cup Classic at Marsh Creek Country Club on March 21, 2011. Proceeds will benefit Rotary's campaign to End Polio Now and Friends of A1A.
This is the second year in a row that Rotary has selected Friends of A1A as one of the beneficiaries of this golf tournament. Sallie O'Hara, the program administrator for Friends of A1A is an active member of Rotary Club of Coastal St. Johns and is the contact for sponsorships.
The mission of the Friends of the A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway is to protect and enhance the byway's resources. Their ultimate goal is to preserve this unique place where residents and visitors alike can step back to the unhurried lifestyle and ambiance of "Old Florida."
The goals of the Coastal Rotary Club include strengthening the community through service projects related to seniors, children and the environment.
On hand will be PGA Professional Instructors, professional photographers, and many local Rotarians and Friends of A1A supporters. Registration begins at 11a.m. with a shotgun start at 12:15 a.m. Major sponsorships are now available with more many A1A Byway businesses providing prizes and support.
Contests available include putting, longest drives, closest to the pin and straightest drive. Barbara Jenness takes joy in assisting people in buying or selling their home or land in northeast Florida (St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra, and Jacksonville). She is a community activist and leader serving as President of Friends of A1A 2008-2010, Past President of Scenic & Historic A1A in St. Johns County for over 10 years, and past vice-president of Vilano Beach Main Street (North Shores Improvement Association). She is a past president for WCR in St. Augustine and a member of South Ponte Vedra Civic Association, Porpoise Point, Serenata Beach Club, and Palencia. She founded and is a Past President of the St. Augustine Regional Council (StAR Council) to promote the St. Augustine area to individuals outside the region.
