Vilano Beach Grocery Store - Update

Vilano Beach Town CenterOn June 16, 2010, the revised grocery store plan for the Vilano Beach Town Center was presented to the Vilano Beach Main Street Group at the Vilano Beach Hampton Inn. As Vice-chair of the North Shores Improvement Association, the board that oversees Vilano Beach Main Street, I had received an earlier copy, but did want to hear the presentation.

Many members of the local community and the local Vilano Beach businesses were there including:

Earl & Remy Jensen - owners of OceanView Lodge (the former Ocean Blue II) and Magic Beach (aka Vilano Beach Motel),

Vernon REM LLC - owners of the Ocean Blue I and the parcels (145 & 155 Vilano Road) that contain where the trailers used to be, Newt's and the old Post Office and well as the vacant lot on the southwest corner of Loja & Vilano Road,

Owners of Sam's-the new breakfast and lunch place at the old Pawnee's, also the former Since 1946 restaurant, and before that for decades it was Barrancotto's.

One of the out parcels (the Penland parcel) on the previous plan for the Vilano Beach grocery store has since been put under contract which dictated a new design. Land Design South worked with the grocer reviewing 20 plans. The links below show the site plan and architectural plan approved by the grocer. This is great news for our community and brings us one step closer to making a grocery store a reality here in Vilano Beach.

The new plans will be presented to the North Coastal Corridor Design Review Board on Friday, June 18th and again at their July meeting as there will not be a quorum, so a vote cannot be done. The plans will probably have to go back in front of the St. Johns County Commission as well.

I hope this happens, that is the one thing Vilano Beach needs. What a great place to live.

Beth, I am confident it will happen. Biggest comment of the day was "grocer approved plans".
