It is entrance Fee-Free Days at all 392 National Parks now through April 25, 2010.

Get out and enjoy a National Park near you this week.

National Park Service LogoThe U.S. National Park Service has 3 different periods set aside for the public to experience these wonderful parks for free this year with this week being National Park Week.

  • April 17-25, 2010
    (National Park Week)
  • September 25, 2010
    (Public Lands Day)
  • November 11, 2010
    (Veterans Day)

Normally, 146 of our nation's 392 national parks charge entrance fees ranging from $3 to $25. The fee free waiver for National Park Week does not include other fees collected in advance or by contractors such as fees charged for camping, reservations and use of concessions.

Saturday, April 24, is National Junior Ranger Day. Children taking part in kid-friendly activities can earn a junior ranger patch. Click the above link to view the different National Parks offering the Junior Ranger Day.

You can also become a Webranger, the National Park Service's on-line Junior Ranger program. Participate in over 50 games while learning about the National Park Service. But with the parks being free this week and with such glorious weather, it is a perfect time to get outside and enjoy these national treasures.

Castillo de San MarcosSo come on out! National parks across the country are hosting events and volunteer projects on Earth Day,  April 22, and throughout the week.

In St. Augustine, the Castillo de San Marcos will be free. This is a wonderful fort that kids of all ages enjoy.

Good reminder to take advantage of the free entry. Seniors can also purchase lifetime passes at a very low cost.

It's great that more folks have access to the parks that might not have been able to afford them. I worry about the park's system, though.
