Friends of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway (Friends of A1A) submitted 4 National Scenic Byway (NSB) applications for grants to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) on March 12, 2010. The State Highway Advisory Committee (SHAC) will review all the submissions from the 6 National Scenic Byways in the state of Florida on April 2, 2010 and rank them to submit to the Federal Highway Administration.
The four grants cover projects in both St. Johns and Flagler counties. Here's an extract from the letter I submitted to the state:
The Board of Directors for the Friends of A1A has ranked viable projects and is pleased to submit four applications for review by the State Highway Advisory Committee (SHAC) for 2010 funding.
- Byway Facility - A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway - Vilano Beach Visitor Information & Community Center
- Access to Recreation -- A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway - A1A Flagler County Greenway Enhancement Projects
- Resource Protection - A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway - Enhanced Coastal Resource Protection Strategy
- Corridor Management Plan - A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway - Advanced Strategy for Corridor Management Plan Implementation
We should get the rankings results in April from the state. Then we hold our collective breaths for a while for the federal government to let us know the result. If you are interested in more details on any of these grant requests, please let me know.
